Big Hand Harp

This harp is an absolute lightweight with 900 g.

Both woods the Weimut Pine und the Sequoia (both indigenous) are weightless like a feather, and are wonderful "tone wood" – quite apart from that, they harmonize visually as conifers.

Scope / Tone sequence: 15 strings (two octaves) diatonic or pentatonic from F or G (optionally other root notes)

String material: phosphor bronze and steel. I use mainly phosphor bronze strings, usually braided, because the sound is warmer and earthier than that of steel strings (the phosphorus in the Bronze makes the otherwise brittle bronze stretchy).

Surface treatment: the jaw is wafer thin with very diluted acrylic paint pretreated (water-based), as they quickly turn yellow if oiled, then with Biowachs (LEINOS) polished. The sequoia wood is oiled (pre-treatment) to enhance its beautiful color.
